Edition 01 ·
A place to learn. A future to build.
A short story. A conversation at home. Something to carry forward.
Established history
In October 1904, Mary McLeod Bethune opened a school in Daytona Beach, Florida. The National Park Service describes its beginning in a rented house with five girls and Bethune’s son. Her work as an educator became part of a wider life of organizing for civil rights and women’s equality.
Our reflection
For us, this story is an invitation to take children’s learning seriously in everyday life. A few minutes with a book is one place to begin.
